The July 31, 2026 update dropped Patch 7.41e and Summer Scrub 2026 at the same time it opened TI 2026 predictions. This is the biggest prediction window Valve runs all year. Here is everything you need to know before the deadline closes.

The Two Prediction Systems

TI 2026 uses two distinct prediction tracks, each scoring separately:

• Swiss Stage Match Results: Predict every head-to-head match outcome in the group stage (August 13-16, online). Valve included a notable data point in the official announcement: “Exactly zero [players] have ever gotten the full Swiss stage results correct.” This is the hardest category, and it is by design.
• Bracket Predictions: Predict which teams reach which positions in the main event bracket and where they finish. The top 8 teams from Swiss advance to the Main Event in Shanghai (August 20-23). This is where the historical data is strongest — see Section 4.

The New Coach Fantasy Mechanic

2026 introduces a fantasy layer called the Coach mechanic. Instead of picking individual players by hero or stat category, you draft players in organized pairs that form teams you “coach”:

• Support pair: Both supports from one team, scored together
• Safelaner + Offlaner pair: The two core players from a team
• Midlaner: A single mid player pick

Fantasy points come from the performance of your drafted players throughout TI. This mechanic is entirely new — no historical data exists for it, and we cover our first-mover reasoning in Section 6.

Rewards for Participating

If you purchase a Team Supporter Bundle: 50% of the revenue goes to the team or talent, 30% goes toward the TI 2026 prize pool, and 20% goes to Valve. This is the same revenue model used for prior TI compendium bundle systems. Source: Dota 2 official announcement, July 31 2026.

The PARIVISION Bombshell: How the Favorites Board Changed Overnight

Before you submit a single prediction, you need to understand one fact that reshapes the entire TI 2026 favorites picture: PARIVISION, the world’s number 1 ranked Dota 2 team, is not at TI 2026.

BetBoom Team (ranked 3rd globally) is also absent. Natus Vincere (ranked 8th) is also absent. Three of the top 8 teams in global rankings failed to qualify. That is not a small gap — that is a seismic one.

The Global Rankings vs. Who Is Actually There

What this means for your predictions: the team that was objectively the best in the world at the time of TI 2026 will not be there. The de facto highest-ranked team attending is Team Yandex at number 2 globally. That is who you pick if you want the pure rankings-based argument — not Falcons, who sit at number 4.

It also means the community and media narrative around “favorites” is going to be confused for weeks. PARIVISION not qualifying is a story, and that noise tends to undervalue the teams that actually showed up. Watch for the market overcorrecting on Falcons being the favorite simply because they are the defending champions — the data on defending champions repeating is not encouraging (Section 4).

Why Does LGD Matter at TI 2026?

TI 2026 is in Shanghai. LGD Gaming is a Chinese team. TI has a significant Chinese fanbase and a history of Chinese teams performing well on home soil. LGD ranked 7th globally and they are attending. There is no confirmed statistical edge for “host city advantage” in TI data, but the crowd factor and familiarity with the venue are real. Note it when making your picks.

8 Years of TI Champions: What the Data Actually Shows

Eight years of TI results is enough data to find patterns — but not enough to be certain. Here is every champion from TI7 (2017) through TI14 (2025), with the bracket path and upset factor for each.

Sources: Wikipedia articles for each TI (TI7-TI14), all confirmed individually. Bracket path data covers TI8-TI12 (traditional double-elimination format) at HIGH confidence. TI13 and TI14 used Swiss group stages where the specific UB/LB paths were not confirmed in available sources.

The OG Anomaly

OG winning TI8 and TI9 is the only back-to-back TI win in the tournament’s history. OG at TI8 entered as an open qualifier team with a brand-new roster, seeded fourth in Group B. No one expected them to win. They won anyway, 3-2 over PSG.LGD in a grand final that went to game five. Then they came back in 2019 as defending champions — still seeded first in Group B — and repeated. That has never happened before or since. If Team Falcons win TI 2026, they become only the second team in TI history to win back-to-back. The weight of that context belongs in your predictions.

Team Spirit: The Pattern Worth Watching

Team Spirit won TI10 (2021) as a Group B #4 seed through the lower bracket — the most improbable championship run in the modern era. They came back in 2023, won again, this time as Group A #1 seed through the upper bracket. One title as an underdog. One title as the favorite. Two different routes, two trophies. That range is unusual and matters when Spirit is on your radar as a pick for TI 2026.

The Base Rates That Actually Matter for Your Bracket

Four base rates emerge clearly from the TI8-TI12 data (traditional double-elimination format). Use them as starting points for bracket picks, not certainties. All rates cite sample size because small samples can mislead.

The Upper Bracket Rate (80%) Is Your Anchor

Four of the five traditional-format TIs (TI8, TI9, TI11, TI12) were won by the team that won through the upper bracket. The single exception is Team Spirit at TI10 (2021), who ran the entire lower bracket as a Group B #4 seed. That was a genuine outlier — Spirit won five lower bracket series in a row before beating PSG.LGD in the grand finals. It can happen, but it happened once in five tournaments.

The practical implication: when you get to the bracket pick section (now open), your champion pick should default to whoever you believe will run the upper bracket. If you pick a lower bracket dark horse, you are at 20% historically — exciting, but the number is what it is.

The Defending Champion Rate (14%) Is a Warning

One team has ever successfully defended a TI title: OG, who won in 2018 and 2019. In the six subsequent TIs after an OG win or any other champion, the defending team did not win. Team Spirit did not defend after TI10. Tundra did not defend after TI11. Team Spirit did not defend after TI12. Team Liquid did not defend after TI13. Falcons are the defending champions at TI 2026 — and the data says defending is extremely hard.

This does not mean do not pick Falcons. It means be honest about the historical base rate when you do. If you pick Falcons and they win, you are bucking a 6-in-7 tendency. If they lose, you are with history.

Group Seed Rate and the Swiss Format Caveat

Group stage #1 seed won in 3 of 5 traditional-format TIs (60%). However, TI 2026 uses a Swiss system for the group stage, which generates seeds differently than the old round-robin format. The 60% rate was derived from traditional group stage data (TI8-TI12). TI13 and TI14 both used Swiss format and their specific seeding dynamics are not confirmed in the data available. Apply the 60% number with caution — it is the best data we have, but Swiss seeds and round-robin seeds are not directly comparable. Our TI 2026 Picks: Data-Backed, Published July 31

Picks locked and published July 31, 2026 — hold us to it. Every pick below has a historical justification and a base rate. These are data picks, not vibes. After TI concludes, we post the accuracy review comparing these picks against actual results.

Champion Pick: Team Falcons (Safe Pick)

Data justification: Falcons are ranked 4th globally among all Dota 2 teams and are the highest-ranked defending champion in the field. They won EWC 2025 ($7M) and TI 2025 in the same year — the closest modern parallel to OG’s TI8+TI9 double. The data pattern of EWC winner also winning TI held true in 2025 (Falcons won both). With two confirmed data points on EWC-to-TI correlation, it is a small sample but a meaningful one.

The counter-argument: the defending champion repeats just 14% of the time historically (1 of 7 champions). If you pick Falcons and they win, you are betting against that trend. We pick Falcons anyway as the safe pick because the 14% base rate covers ALL defending champions — most of whom were not as dominant as Falcons entering their defense.

Bracket strategy: pick Falcons as UB champion. If Falcons runs upper bracket (as expected for a top seed), the combined base rates of “UB winner wins TI” (80%) and “Falcons as top attending team” make this the most defensible pick available.

Value Pick: Team Yandex (Highest-Ranked Attending Team)

Data justification: Team Yandex is ranked 2nd globally (1,406 points on GosuGamers, July 2026). With PARIVISION absent, Yandex is de facto the highest-ranked team at TI 2026 by global rating. In 3 of 5 traditional-format TIs, the top group seed went on to win the championship (60%). Yandex is not a household name yet — that undervaluation is where the value is.

Why this is a “value” pick rather than a “safe” pick: Yandex is relatively new in its current form and lacks TI pedigree under this name. The global ranking is real, but pedigree and big-stage experience matter at TI. This is the pick you make if you believe the current moment form beats historical track record.

Dark Horse: Team Spirit

Data justification: Team Spirit has won TI twice (TI10 in 2021, TI12 in 2023). They won once as a Group B seed #4 through the lower bracket (the biggest modern underdog story in TI history) and once as the Group A #1 seed through the upper bracket. Their versatility — capable of winning from any position in the field — makes them unlike any other team in the data set. Spirit currently ranks 6th globally (1,275 points) and is attending TI 2026. They are not the favorite on paper, but they have two trophies that say paper favorites do not always matter.

The dark horse designation here is relative — Spirit is a credible champion contender, not a 100-to-1 longshot. Pick them if you want to differentiate your bracket from the crowd while still having history behind you.

Fade: Gaimin Gladiators for the Title

Data justification: Gaimin Gladiators have reached the TI Grand Final twice — TI12 (2023) and TI13 (2024) — and have zero wins. They lost 3-0 to Team Spirit in 2023 and 3-0 to Team Liquid in 2024. Two final appearances, two clean sweeps on the wrong side. The “bridesmaid curse” has no official statistical backing, but two consecutive finals losses with zero titles in two attempts is a meaningful data point for TI predictions. Pick Gaimin to reach the main event, pick them to go deep. Do not pick them as champion unless you believe 2026 is the year the pattern breaks.

What Our 100,000-Run Simulation Says

Before the TI 2026 group stage draw, we ran 100,000 simulated Swiss-stage runs using Elo ratings built from 30+ recent LAN series per team. Sim vs. Editorial: Category by Category

The Simulation’s Top Five (Group Stage)

The five teams with the highest main-event qualification probability in our simulation: Team Yandex (81.1%), Aurora Gaming (74.6%), TEAM VISION (74.5%), BoomBoys (73.0%), and Team Liquid (66.6%). None of these is our editorial safe-pick champion. Falcons rank 9th at 42.8%. The simulation is built on Elo performance across recent LAN series only — it does not model roster chemistry, big-stage composure, or defending-champion pressure. Our editorial weights those factors, which is the source of the Falcons disagreement.

Why We Still Pick Falcons Despite the Simulation

The simulation gives Falcons a 42.8% chance of reaching the main event — below average for the field. Our editorial still picks them as the safe champion pick because Elo models measure consistency across many events; they do not capture the specific conditions of the biggest stage. The Yandex agreement is worth noting: a pure data model and our editorial both arrive at Yandex as the value pick, which reinforces that selection.

An another independent simulation on the Dota 2 subreddit produced broadly similar top-tier groupings to ours, adding confidence to the Yandex and Aurora positioning in particular.

Coach Fantasy: First-Mover Strategy When No History Exists

The Coach fantasy mechanic is new for TI 2026. No historical data exists for it. What follows is reasoned strategy, not statistical backing — and we label it explicitly as such.

Pair Selection: Consistency Over Upside

You pick player pairs (support pair, safelaner-offlaner pair, and midlaner) that you “coach” for the duration of TI. Fantasy points come from their performance across the whole event. Unlike Swiss match picks, your pair scores accumulate over multiple series — meaning consistency through many games beats a single spectacular performance.

Recommended approach: pick pairs from teams you expect to go deep into the main event. A team eliminated in the first round of the double-elimination bracket gives your pair maybe 2-3 series worth of scoring opportunities. A team that reaches the grand finals gives you 7+ series. Map coverage is as important as per-game ceiling.

Value Logic: Over-Indexed Pair Picks

In fantasy systems where picks are made before an event begins, players from “expected to be eliminated early” teams are undervalued. If you believe a team like Team Spirit or Team Liquid will go deeper than public perception suggests, their pairs offer better expected-point-per-pick value than the obvious Falcons or Yandex picks that everyone will rush for.

Specific reasoning: support pairs from teams with consistent pos 4/5 players who play heavy teamfight heroes tend to score well in any fantasy system that tracks kills, assists, and team fights. The new Coach pairing mechanic specifically locks a support pair together — meaning both players need to be strong, not just one.

Midlaner Singleton Pick

The midlaner slot is a single pick. High upside, but mid performance is highly meta-dependent. Avoid picking a midlaner whose hero pool is narrow in the current patch (7.41e). Versatile mid players who can perform on both carry and utility heroes give you more coverage against patch surprises during the Swiss stage.

How to Maximize Points Without a Perfect Sweep

Valve told us in the July 31 announcement that zero players have ever correctly predicted all Swiss stage results. That is not a warning — it is a strategy guide. It tells you that optimizing for a perfect Swiss sweep is wasted effort. The expected value of attempting it is zero.

The Right Frame: Expected Points, Not Perfect Score

Instead of trying to predict every Swiss match result correctly, focus on which picks give you the most expected points across the range of plausible outcomes. Three frameworks that help:

• Weight high-base-rate picks heavily: The UB winner wins TI at 80% historically. Put points into whoever you believe runs upper bracket. That 80% rate is your best source of expected value.
• Distribute Swiss picks across likely outcomes: If two teams are closely matched in Swiss, picking the slight favorite costs little but gains points when they win. Do not overthink upsets — the base rate of surprise Swiss results is what makes a perfect sweep impossible.
• Bracket picks compound: Getting the first few bracket rounds right unlocks points for subsequent picks. A team you correctly place in the top 4 gives you points at multiple stages, not just one. Prioritize getting the later bracket rounds right over early-round guesses.

The One Thing That Costs You the Most Points

Picking a team that gets eliminated in Swiss. If you have a team going deep in the bracket but they do not make the top 8 from Swiss, you lose all your bracket points for them. Swiss elimination is the catastrophic failure mode. Pick your bracket favorites from teams you believe have a genuine route through Swiss — do not pick a “bracket favorite” who might not even make it to Shanghai.

Teams with high global rankings have proven consistency and are more likely to make it through Swiss. Yandex (ranked 2nd), Falcons (ranked 4th), Spirit (ranked 6th), LGD (ranked 7th), and Liquid (ranked 9th) are all safer Swiss qualifiers than teams ranked outside the top 15. Your understanding of team form matters here — the same way your own rank benefits from consistent play, TI predictions benefit from picking consistently strong teams over ones peaking at the right moment.
