Dota 2 7.41f Item Tier List: Best Buys
Patch 7.41f dropped September 15, 2026, and while Valve billed it as a “targeted balance cleanup” ahead of the expected 7.42 overhaul, the changes underneath the surface hit harder than the patch notes let on. Several core items got quiet stat tweaks, recipe costs shifted, and a handful of heroes got buffed or nerfed in ways that completely reshuffle which items you are actually supposed to buy.
If you are still itemizing like it is 7.41e, you are leaving MMR on the table. This guide ranks every relevant item from S-tier to F-tier and tells you exactly why each placement changed from the previous patch. Whether you are a carry player deciding between Butterfly and Daedalus on game 47 or a support figuring out if Aeon Disk is still worth the 3,000 gold, this tier list has your answer.

What Changed in 7.41f That Matters for Itemization
Before diving into the tier list itself, here is a fast summary of the 7.41f changes that actually move items up or down relative to 7.41e. Valve never patches items in isolation — every hero stat change reshapes which items hit breakpoints and which miss them.
The Big Mechanical Shifts
Armor nerfs hit several tanky offlaners and cores. Axe lost 1 base armor, Centaur Warrunner lost 1 base armor, and Mars had his Spear of Mars slow nerfed from 30% to 25%. This makes armor-stacking items like Assault Cuirass even more critical on these heroes, and it makes Desolator more punishing when used against them. If you are running an Axe or Centaur, you need AC earlier than you did in 7.41e. If you are the enemy, Desolator buys you more kill pressure than it did last patch.
Mana cost increases on key spells. Lion’s Finger of Death, Lina’s Dragon Slave, and Shadow Demon’s Disruption all got mana cost increases of 15-25 mana per cast. This sounds minor but at the support mana pool level it changes early laning significantly. The items that regenerate mana — Arcane Boots, Soul Ring, Void Stone components — all go up slightly in value for these heroes. Building into Energy Booster faster is correct now on Lion and Shadow Demon.
Agility carry attack speed nerfs. Phantom Assassin had her base attack speed reduced by 5. Clinkz lost 3 agility. Weaver lost 5 base attack speed. These are small but they shift the point at which these heroes hit comfortable DPS breakpoints. Butterfly on these carries now hits its power spike slightly later, making early aggressive damage items like Desolator more appealing as first items before the Butterfly transition.
Strength and tanking got a small buff indirectly. Heart of Tarrasque’s passive regeneration was increased from 1.6% to 1.75% per second, which sounds small but translates to an additional 40-70 HP per second on most cores that buy it. Against burst-heavy mids with Laguna Blade or Finger of Death, this regen rate barely matters. But against sustained damage lineups, Heart now becomes an A-tier pickup on many cores where it was borderline B in 7.41e.
S-Tier Items: Broken Right Now in 7.41f
S-tier means you should buy this item in the vast majority of games on eligible heroes. These items are overtuned relative to their cost right now and will almost certainly get addressed in 7.42. Exploit them while you can.
Blink Dagger
Blink has been S-tier every patch for years and 7.41f is no exception. Valve has consistently refused to nerf Blink’s core stats because it is too deeply embedded in the game’s fundamental design. At 2,250 gold with a 1,200-unit instant reposition and a 3-second cooldown, there is no item in Dota 2 with a better gold-to-kill-pressure ratio. Buy it on every initiator, every offlaner, and any core with hard-engage ultimates. If you are climbing from Legend to Immortal, this is the first 2,000-gold purchase you should always default to when your hero has a stun, hook, or setup ability.
Desolator
Desolator’s -7 armor on hit at a 5,100-gold cost has never been better. The 7.41f armor nerfs on several tanky cores mean that Desolator now reduces enemies to negative armor faster than it did in 7.41e. A single Desolator user against an Axe who already got nerfed makes the hero essentially a creep for 5 seconds during a fight. On physical damage cores like Phantom Lancer, Drow Ranger, or a Death Prophet with a physical lineup, Desolator is now mandatory in the S-tier slot. Even lone carries should consider it as a first or second major item against tanky lineups.
Lotus Orb
Lotus Orb has been climbing tier lists for the last three patches and 7.41f cements it at S. The active reflect applies to Finger of Death, Ravage, Black Hole, and almost every game-changing single-target ability. At 3,850 gold it costs less than a BKB but solves similar problems in more matchups. The change is that more supports are buying it — not just cores — because it also clears debuffs like Rupture, Nether Swap setups, and Scythe of Vyse sheep. In the TI 2026 meta where several dominant support picks used targeted disables, Lotus Orb was in almost every top team’s itemization. Nothing changed in 7.41f to make it weaker. Build this on every pos 3 and pos 4 in games where you face single-target lockdown.
Black King Bar
BKB is eternal S-tier. The 7.41f meta is particularly BKB-friendly because the dominant TI heroes ran heavy magic damage lineups (Leshrac, Lion, Lina were all popular at TI 2026). Even after those heroes got nerfed for pub meta, the lineups they defined are still being copied at every rank below 8,000 MMR through the patch cycle lag. BKB on carries is not optional in 90% of pub games. The only scenarios where you skip it are when the enemy team is entirely physical damage with no disables, which is maybe 5% of your games at Immortal and 2% at lower brackets.

Aghanim’s Scepter
Scepter is hero-dependent, but across the pool of heroes that benefit most from it right now, it has risen to S. Morphling’s Scepter is still excellent for the replicate ability despite his nerfs. Medusa’s Scepter turns Mana Shield passive into a much stronger tank mechanism. Crystal Maiden’s Scepter frees up her Black Hole effect. The key insight is that Scepter upgrades were buffed across 13 heroes in the 7.41 cycle, and many of those upgrades have not been nerfed yet. Check the specific Scepter effect for your hero before defaulting to a different item — for about 20 heroes in the current meta, Scepter is outright broken.
A-Tier Items: Strong and Reliable in Most Games
A-tier items are strong but require some game sense to use optimally. You will not automatically win by buying these, but they represent good value and correct itemization in the right situations.
Manta Style
Manta is A-tier because it serves as both an offensive and defensive tool. The illusions deal real DPS and can break disables when clicked in the right window. The 2.5-second dispel is underrated — it clears most debuffs that are not already covered by BKB. On Morphling, Anti-Mage, and Phantom Lancer specifically, Manta transitions into an almost mandatory pickup after your first core item. In 7.41f it sits slightly below S because Desolator and BKB serve more roles on more heroes, but for agility carries with illusion synergy, this is effectively your S-tier choice.
Assault Cuirass
After the 7.41f armor nerfs on Axe and Centaur, Assault Cuirass climbed from B to A. The -5 armor aura combined with the +10 armor on the holder creates a 15-armor swing in your favor, which is massive in physical-damage-focused lineups. It is particularly strong when paired with Desolator — the combo of Assault’s -5 armor aura and Desolator’s -7 armor on-hit stacks, meaning enemies hit by both have -12 armor below their base value. That is enough to push any hero into deeply negative armor territory against a team with both items.
Daedalus
Daedalus is A-tier pure DPS. The 30% crit chance at 225% damage gives you an 82.5 DPS multiplier on average, which is still the highest raw damage item in the game. Where it sits at A rather than S is because BKB and Desolator solve problems that Daedalus cannot — survivability and armor penetration respectively. On heroes that have natural survivability baked in (Wraith King with reincarnation, Phantom Assassin with dodge passive, Juggernaut with Blade Fury spell immunity) Daedalus rises to S-tier because those heroes do not need to spend gold on defensive items the same way.
Bloodthorn
Bloodthorn rose significantly in 7.41f. The silence is critical in a meta where Storm Spirit, Puck, and Void Spirit are all popular mid heroes, and the soul burn stacks crit on top of silence. At 6,800 gold it is expensive, but the disable plus amplified magic damage completely shuts down any carry that relies on mobility abilities to escape. On mid players looking to assassinate fed carries in the late game, Bloodthorn gives you the full damage chain: Orchid silence, soul burn damage amplification, then burst the target with any nuke source.
Octarine Core
Octarine is A-tier for spell-based cores in 7.41f. The mana cost changes and cast time nerfs on several key spells make you want to cast abilities less frequently — but Octarine’s cooldown reduction lets you cast those abilities more often, partially offsetting the nerfs. On heroes like Leshrac, Tinker, and Pugna, Octarine is your first or second item and brings your core ability rotations down to near-spam frequency. The spell lifesteal component is also increasingly valuable in sustained fights, especially when enemies are running Physical damage lineups where your mana-dependent burst is the only teamfight contribution you have.
Eul’s Scepter of Divinity
Eul’s had a quiet rise in 7.41f. The item costs 2,750 gold and provides a 2.5-second cyclone that serves as setup, delay, dispel, and mana regen in one. In a meta where several strong carries rely on timing their BKBs correctly, Eul’s lets you burn the BKB duration by cycloning yourself or an ally during the window, then re-engaging when the BKB expires. The 35 intelligence from Eul’s is also no joke — it adds noticeable burst to intelligence midlaners who build it early. Lion and Leshrac both use Eul’s as a setup tool and mana accelerator simultaneously.
B-Tier Items: Situationally Correct
B-tier items are right in maybe 30-50% of games. They are not default buys but knowing when to build them is a skill separator that marks the difference between a player who copies tier lists and a player who actually understands itemization.
Butterfly
Butterfly dropped from A to B in 7.41f. The 35% evasion is still incredible but the Agility carry attack speed nerfs mean several carries no longer reach the attack speed breakpoints that make Butterfly’s stats multiplicatively powerful. Specifically on Phantom Assassin and Clinkz, the slower base attack speed means you reach diminishing returns on attack speed sooner from Butterfly. It is still the correct buy as a third or fourth major item on these heroes, but second-item Butterfly is now generally worse than second-item Desolator or second-item Daedalus.
Heaven’s Halberd
Heaven’s Halberd is B-tier but it was close to A in 7.41f. The 6-second disarm completely negates ranged carries during teamfights and the evasion component makes you surprisingly difficult to kill. The issue is that at 3,500 gold it is an expensive situational item — if the enemy does not have a dangerous ranged carry, you would rather spend those 3,500 gold on damage items. When the enemy does have a fed Sniper, Drow Ranger, or Luna, Heaven’s Halberd is effectively game-winning if used correctly. Train yourself to recognize these matchups and add Halberd to your itemization path.
Radiance
Radiance climbed back to B after being C-tier in several patches. The post-TI 2026 meta has more illusion carries and summon-based heroes active in pubs because spectators copy what won TI. Against Phantom Lancer, Chen, Lycan, or Broodmother, Radiance’s burn damage applies to all copies and summons, which is its unique utility that no other item replicates. On farming carries like Anti-Mage or Medusa where the goal is to accumulate maximum net worth before fighting, Radiance still accelerates your farm better than almost any other item. Do not buy it in fast-pace games where fights happen before 20 minutes.
Force Staff
Force Staff is B-tier universally and A-tier for supports. The ability to reposition any allied unit 600 units in any direction saves lives in ways that are difficult to quantify. It upgrades into Hurricane Pike for ranged carries who need range extension and forced repositioning. For supports, Force Staff is often the correct third or fourth item after Blink Dagger and Glimmer Cape, because it gives you an emergency escape tool that works even through magic immunity stuns that would otherwise be unavoidable. In 7.41f it has not changed, but with more initiation-heavy lineups in the meta, Force Staff’s defensive value has risen quietly.
Aeon Disk
Aeon Disk is B-tier in 7.41f and was borderline C in previous patches. The item activates when you drop below 70% HP to give you 2.5 seconds of damage immunity and a 40% speed boost. Against burst-heavy mids and gankers like Storm Spirit, Leshrac, or Lion, that 2.5-second window is often enough to Blink out, Force Staff to safety, or for teammates to peel for you. The problem remains the same as always: it is a reactive item that does nothing until you are nearly dead. Active survivability items like BKB or Linkens are generally more reliable. Aeon Disk is correct on positioning-dependent cores like Void or Invoker who get caught one time per game and need that single escape.

Silver Edge
Silver Edge is B-tier and under-built in most pub games. Break is one of the strongest mechanics in the game — it disables all passive abilities for 4 seconds, which means it turns off Phantom Assassin’s dodge, Broodmother’s speed, Bristleback’s resistance, and many other defining passives. At 4,800 gold it is not cheap but the value in the right matchup is exceptional. The issue is that Silver Edge is a knowledge-gated item — you need to know which passives are worth breaking in your specific game, and you need to commit to it as your stealth initiation tool rather than treating it as a situational upgrade. When you build Silver Edge, you are committing to picking off lone targets. Plan your role accordingly.
C-Tier Items: Weaker Than Their Cost in This Meta
C-tier items are not unplayable but they represent suboptimal gold spending in most 7.41f games. There is almost always a better item at a similar price point.
Vanguard
Vanguard is weak in 7.41f because the meta skews toward spell damage. Vanguard only blocks physical damage, providing a Damage Block of up to 64 points. Against Leshrac, Lion, or any magic-damage-heavy lineup, Vanguard does literally nothing to reduce your incoming damage. Its upgrade path into Crimson Guard is also below average unless you are specifically trying to protect your team against a split-pushing physical lineup. If you are a pos 3 looking for early tankiness, Point Booster and getting to Heart of Tarrasque faster is better gold spending than Vanguard in most cases.
Vladmir’s Offering
Vladmir’s is C-tier because of role squeeze. The item provides a lifesteal aura, armor, and mana regen — all things that support carries around you. The problem is that in ranked play, Vladmir’s is most effective in a coordinated 5-stack where your carry will stay near you to receive the aura. In pubs, carries roam, farm different camps, and frequently are not within the aura range when fights happen. Assault Cuirass gives similar aura value at a higher cost but more reliably because you carry it yourself. Vladmir’s has a narrow niche on position 5 supports in lineups with multiple physical carries, but that is rare enough that building it by default is a mistake.
Eye of Skadi
Skadi dropped to C in 7.41f. At 5,300 gold it used to be a strong defensive stat item with a unique Cold Attack slow. The problem is that the slow does not stack with other slows, and multiple items that provide similar raw stats (Manta, Heart, Butterfly) provide more practical value in fights. Skadi still has a niche against regenerating enemies like Wraith King or Huskar, since the slow applies to their regen at a reduced rate. But if the enemy does not rely on Spell Lifesteal or regeneration passives, Skadi is simply overpriced stats compared to the alternatives.
Pipe of Insight
Pipe is a support item that has been quietly declining. The magic resistance aura is strong when the enemy has strong magic burst, but the item costs 3,475 gold on a support hero who often needs their gold for survivability items (Glimmer Cape, Aeon Disk) and utility items (Force Staff, Lotus Orb). In 7.41f, Lotus Orb frequently does more work because it both clears debuffs and reflects targeted spells, while Pipe only provides a barrier and aura. Only build Pipe when the enemy has specifically double magic burst (e.g., Lina + Lion) and no targeted spells that Lotus would be better against.
Items to Drop from Your Build Pool Entirely in 7.41f
These are items that are simply wrong purchases in the current meta. Remove them from your mental default list until the next patch.
Maelstrom / Mjollnir (on non-farm carries)
The lightning chain is valuable for farming but Mjollnir on a core that has finished farming is almost always outclassed by Butterfly or Daedalus for DPS, and by BKB for survivability. Gyrocopter is the main hero where Mjollnir stays relevant because of his AoE attack style, but on standard carries like Juggernaut, PA, or Anti-Mage, selling your Maelstrom after your farming phase ends is often correct.
Sange & Yasha
Sange and Yasha has almost no use cases in 7.41f. The component build path competes directly with better items — Sange builds toward Heaven’s Halberd and Halberd is better than S&Y on its own, while Yasha builds into Manta Style which is dramatically better. The combined item exists in a weird middle zone of stats that rarely fits any hero’s ideal power curve. The only reason to buy S&Y is as an intermediate item while waiting for gold to complete a more expensive item, and even then there are better intermediates.
Diffusal Blade (on wrong heroes)
Diffusal Blade is excellent on Phantom Lancer, Anti-Mage, and Slark specifically. On almost every other hero it is wrong. The mana burn per hit is only high-value against heroes who rely heavily on their mana pool, and the purge active is only relevant against heroes with mobility items like Eul’s or Guardian Greaves dispel. If the enemy does not have a clear mana pool that you want to drain or a buff that purge counters, spend those 3,150 gold on Desolator or Bloodthorn.

Which Items to Default to by Role
The tier list above covers items in isolation. Here is how they stack up when filtered by position, which is how you should actually think about itemization during draft phase.
Position 1 (Carry) Itemization Path in 7.41f
The core path for most pub carries in 7.41f:
- Boots: Power Treads in 90% of games. Phase Boots only on heroes that need the armor bypass for right-clicking (Clinkz, Bloodseeker).
- First item (10-16 min): Desolator on most physical carries. Battle Fury on Anti-Mage and Medusa who need the farm acceleration more than the kill threat.
- Second item (18-24 min): BKB on all carries unless the enemy has zero disables and zero magic damage (this scenario does not exist in pub games). Manta on illusion carries.
- Third item (25-30 min): Butterfly or Daedalus depending on whether you need survivability or DPS. Butterfly is better if you are already winning and the enemy does not have True Strike (Faceless Void, Razor). Daedalus if you need to accelerate kill threat.
- Fourth item and beyond: Heart of Tarrasque in extended games. Assault Cuirass if the enemy has a ranged carry farming from a distance. Abyssal Blade for lockdown against high-value targets.
Position 2 (Mid) Itemization Path in 7.41f
Mids split into two build philosophies in 7.41f:
- Roaming/ganking mids (Storm Spirit, Queen of Pain, Void Spirit): Bottle + Blink Dagger + Bloodthorn/Orchid. Your goal is maximum mobility and burst damage on a 3-5 minute cooldown rotation. Eul’s is an excellent third item to burn BKBs.
- Lane domination mids (Dragon Knight, Pugna, Viper): Power Treads + Aghanim’s Scepter (if your hero has a good one) + BKB. You are looking to itemize for teamfights and push, not for solo kill pressure.
Position 3 (Offlane) Itemization Path in 7.41f
The post-TI 2026 offlane meta favors initiation over tankiness:
- First item: Blink Dagger on initiators (Axe, Mars, Centaur, Tidehunter). No exceptions.
- Second item: Lotus Orb if the enemy has strong targeted disables. Assault Cuirass if you are ahead and need to stay ahead. BKB if you keep getting caught and shutdown by magic burst.
- Third item: Shiva’s Guard, Blade Mail, or Pipe depending on what your team needs.
Position 4 (Soft Support) Itemization Path in 7.41f
Soft support itemization has the most variation in 7.41f:
- Arcane Boots or Tranquil Boots depending on whether you need mana for repeated ability use or sustain for lane presence.
- Glimmer Cape in almost every game — the 45% magic resistance plus 1-second instant invisibility is too much defensive value to skip.
- Force Staff when the enemy has strong single-target initiation (Blink + stun combos).
- Lotus Orb as third or fourth item when the enemy has Rupture, Vengeful Spirit ultimate, or similar high-value targeted abilities.
Position 5 (Hard Support) Itemization Path in 7.41f
Hard supports are the most cost-constrained role so every gold decision matters:
- First items: Tranquil Boots + Wind Lace for mobility. Urn of Shadows for snowball pressure.
- Core purchase: Glimmer Cape or Pavise depending on whether your carry is taking spell or physical damage.
- Mid-game: Eul’s Scepter (2,750g) is frequently the best purchase for your team — setup, burn BKBs, mana regen, and emergency self-save in one item at a reasonable cost.
- Late game: Aeon Disk if you keep getting one-shot and your team needs you alive longer. Aghanim’s Shard on most supports has significant combat value for 1,400 gold.
