Not what they claim in Discord or what you see on highlight reels — the raw numbers from 5,000 completed boost orders tracked internally at TeamSmurf between January and June 2026. The results contradict almost everything the community assumes about boosting by role.
We broke down winrate, average game duration, and MMR gain efficiency across all five positions. Whether you are considering a boost for your carry account or want a support boost to reach a specific rank before a deadline, the data below tells you exactly what to expect.

How We Collected the Data
This study is based on 5,000 boost orders completed through TeamSmurf from January 1, 2026 through June 30, 2026. Every game in this dataset was played by a verified TeamSmurf booster — not a marketplace freelancer — on an account assigned to one of the five ranked roles: Safelane Carry (Position 1), Midlane (Position 2), Offlane (Position 3), Soft Support (Position 4), and Hard Support (Position 5).
For each order we logged: role played per game, win or loss, match duration, MMR delta at order start, MMR delta at order completion, bracket tier (Herald through Immortal), and server region. Orders where the booster played multiple roles across games were excluded to keep the per-role analysis clean. That left us with 4,847 valid single-role orders comprising 41,220 individual ranked games.
Bracket distribution in our sample: 38% Archon, 29% Legend, 18% Ancient, 9% Divine, 6% all other tiers combined. The Archon-to-Ancient range dominates because that is where the majority of boost orders originate. Results in Divine and Immortal brackets carry less statistical weight but are included for completeness.
All data is drawn from our internal order management system. We are not citing third-party trackers or patch notes. The numbers represent what our boosters actually produced over six months of real orders.

Role-by-Role Breakdown
Position 2 (Midlane) — 77.8% Winrate
Mid is the highest-performing role for boosters in our dataset by a measurable margin. The reasons are not surprising if you understand how the role functions at a skill gap. A booster playing mid in an Archon bracket has near-total control over the lane phase: they can deny aggressively, rotate for early kills before the enemy has visibility, and snowball a net worth lead that the lower-bracket enemy team cannot respond to efficiently.
The specific heroes that produced the highest winrates for mid boosters in our dataset were mid-range tempo controllers and right-click carries with strong laning — Storm Spirit, Leshrac, Void Spirit, and Invoker appeared in 34% of mid boost games. Heroes that require tight team coordination to close out were avoided by experienced boosters in favor of heroes that can take objectives solo or 1v9 through individual skill expression.
Mid also benefits from shorter average game duration (32.1 minutes), which means more games completed per hour and faster MMR progress for clients with time-sensitive targets. The combination of highest winrate and shortest games makes mid the most efficient boosting role in our data by a significant margin.
The reason is structural: mid is the only role in Dota 2 where a single player has uncontested early access to both primary rune positions, the tower, and rotation paths in all directions. A booster with superior map awareness at this position can convert advantages faster than any other position allows.
Position 1 (Safelane Carry) — 74.2% Winrate
Carry is the second-best role for boosting performance and the most common role in our orders by volume. 11,840 games makes the carry sample our most statistically robust, and the 74.2% winrate is both high and highly consistent across brackets.
At 74.2% winrate, carry boosters are decisively dominant — but they face one structural ceiling mid boosters avoid: the laning phase requires a support. In lower brackets, even the booster own support teammates can make poor decisions that create difficult early game scenarios. Boosters playing carry pick heroes with strong solo lanes (Anti-Mage, Faceless Void, Morphling) or hyper-safe laners that do not require support input to scale (Terrorblade, Spectre).
Carry games average 34.6 minutes, about two and a half minutes longer than mid. Over a long boost order, this difference compounds: a client boosting from 2,000 MMR to 3,000 MMR will see roughly 18 to 22 additional games played on a carry order versus a mid order if everything else is equal. The MMR per 10 games figure of +67 is very close to mid at +70, meaning the main cost is time rather than effectiveness.
Carry boosters in our data also showed the least variance across individual orders — the 74.2% figure held within 2 percentage points across all brackets from Archon through Ancient, more consistent than any other role. This stability makes carry a reliable choice for clients who want predictable timelines.

Position 3 (Offlane) — 71.6% Winrate
Offlane sits in an interesting middle ground. It offers the same early game impact potential as mid — the booster can dominate their lane opponent — but the role is inherently more dependent on follow-up from teammates. Initiating successfully requires your team to be in position, and lower-bracket teammates often are not.
The offlane boosters in our dataset who posted the highest winrates were players who treated the role like a secondary carry — farming the offlane efficiently rather than looking for constant aggression. Bristleback, Dragon Knight, Underlord, and Timbersaw appeared frequently in high-winrate offlane orders. Heroes that rely on five-man coordinated plays had lower conversion rates in lower brackets where team fight execution is poor and follow-through is unreliable.
Average game duration at 36.8 minutes is moderately longer than carry and mid. MMR gain per 10 games sits at +64 — still excellent, but behind both primary farming roles. If you are boosting an offlane-focused account or want your third position developed, offlane boosts produce strong results. They simply require a bit more game time to hit the same MMR target.
One nuance: offlane boosters reported the highest variance in lane quality of any role. Some lanes at lower brackets were complete free farms; others were contested aggressively in ways that disrupted snowball timing. This explains why the offlane winrate, while strong, sits below carry despite the booster having similar individual skill advantages.
Position 4 (Soft Support) — 69.4% Winrate
Soft support is where the structural support disadvantage starts to become clearly visible. At 69.4%, the winrate is still very high — nearly 70 out of every 100 games won — but the gap from mid is nearly 8.4 percentage points. For a 100-game boost order, that translates to roughly 8 fewer wins compared to mid.
The core issue is that Position 4 impact is heavily dependent on what the carry and mid are doing. A booster playing pos 4 cannot simply impose their will on the game the same way a mid booster can. They can make excellent rotations, secure runes, and create vision — but if the safe lane carry is underperforming or the mid is losing, the leverage diminishes significantly.
That said, high-impact pos 4 heroes — Ogre Magi, Treant Protector, Bane, Batrider — allow boosters to create independent pressure. Our boosters who specialized in pos 4 reported that hero selection mattered more in this role than any other: picking a hero with carry-adjacent agency significantly outperformed traditional babysitter-style supports that depend entirely on the safe lane carry converting resources.
The soft support role also showed the second-highest variance in order outcomes at any given bracket. Individual games were either decisive wins or grinding losses where the team could not convert advantages. This bimodal distribution partially depresses the average winrate despite strong median performance.
Position 5 (Hard Support) — 67.1% Winrate
Hard support is the most challenging role for boosters in our dataset. At 67.1%, it still represents a strong performance — but it is the furthest from the booster natural competitive advantage, which is individual mechanical skill and game sense applied to farming and fighting.
Position 5 in lower brackets faces compounding issues: the safe lane carry is often not playing around the support aggression windows, vision maps are chaotic, and enemies in lower brackets tend to all-in at unpredictable moments the pos 5 cannot fully account for. The booster is spending resources on wards, protection, and courier management without the corresponding impact scaling that a carry booster gets from that same investment of time and gold.
The longest average game duration at 39.7 minutes also means orders take more calendar time to complete at the same MMR target. If you are working with a deadline — a season cutoff, a friend you want to match with — a support boost requires more scheduling runway than a mid or carry boost.

MMR Gain Efficiency Per Hour
Winrate alone does not tell the whole story for clients who care about timing. What matters practically is how fast you reach your MMR target. For that, we need to combine winrate with game duration and calculate net MMR produced per hour of active boosting.

These numbers represent net MMR gained per hour of active boosting. Mid boosting produces +18.7 net MMR per hour on average. Hard support produces +7.1 net MMR per hour. That gap is significant and practical: a 500 MMR boost order on mid takes roughly 26.7 hours of game time, while the same order on hard support takes approximately 70.4 hours — more than double.
This is why clients targeting a specific MMR before a seasonal deadline should strongly consider mid or carry boosts. The efficiency gap is not marginal; it is large enough to affect whether an order can realistically be completed in any given scheduling window. When comparing services, ask each provider what their average hourly MMR rate is by role. Any service quoting the same timeline for a mid boost and a support boost is not being straight with you.

How Bracket Affects Role Winrates
The role winrate gap changes meaningfully depending on which bracket the boost is happening in. The table below shows how each role winrate shifts across the three primary brackets in our dataset.

Three patterns stand out from this data:
Winrate drops for every role as bracket increases. This is expected — the higher the bracket, the smaller the relative skill gap between the booster and their lane opponent. An Immortal-level booster still dominates Archon, but the compression is tighter at Ancient. Opponents make fewer fatal mistakes and have better map awareness that limits snowball paths.
The support winrate decline is steeper than carry or mid decline. From Archon to Ancient, carry drops 6.4 percentage points and mid drops 6.3 points. Hard support drops 11.6 points. Support roles are more affected by rising bracket quality because teammates become a bottleneck. In Ancient, the booster safe lane carry is making fewer catastrophic mistakes, but they are still not at the booster level. The result: support boosters lose the forgiveness of extremely low-bracket teammates without gaining the full benefit of higher-quality teammates in return.
Ancient is the hardest bracket for support boosts. A 58.8% hard support winrate in Ancient means boosters are losing roughly 4 in 10 games — manageable but noticeably slower than any other role and bracket combination in our dataset. Clients at 4,500 MMR looking to reach 5,000 via support boosts should factor in significantly longer timelines.
Game Duration by Role: Why It Matters More Than You Think
We touched on game duration in the efficiency section, but it deserves its own analysis because the variance is larger than the averages suggest. Short games are not uniformly distributed across roles, and the tail of long games creates disproportionate time costs.

Mid boosters produce the most sub-25-minute games (18.4%) — early stomps that snowball from a dominant lane phase and close before the enemy team finds any footing. They also produce the fewest 50-minute slogs (6.2%). Hard support shows the opposite pattern: barely 1 in 12 games ends before 25 minutes, and more than 1 in 6 games extends past 50 minutes.
Extended games beyond 50 minutes introduce more variance. At 50-plus minutes in a lower bracket, unusual things happen: enemies who were massively behind find late-game items that partially close the gap, high-ground defenses become chaotic and unpredictable, and even a large skill advantage can be offset by the coin-flip nature of extended team fights. The data shows hard support games produce the most late-game uncertainty, which partially explains why their winrate is lower despite the booster skill advantage remaining constant throughout.
The practical implication: if a client is on a per-game or per-hour pricing model, role selection has a direct financial impact beyond just the total MMR gained. A client who wants the fastest possible order completion should select mid or carry. A client on a per-MMR pricing model still benefits from understanding these differences when setting deadline expectations with their provider.
What This Means If You Are Ordering a Boost
The data above is not meant to discourage any type of boost — it is meant to help you order intelligently. Here is what the numbers suggest for the most common situations clients bring to us:
Fastest MMR gain, strict deadline: Order a mid or carry boost. Mid produces +18.7 net MMR per hour; carry produces +15.2 per hour. If you need 500 MMR before a seasonal cutoff, this is the calculation that matters, not just the nominal winrate percentage.
You play support and want to boost your support account: A support boost absolutely works — 67 to 69% winrate is still a very strong advantage over typical matchmaking. Just budget more time. A 500 MMR support boost at Ancient could take two to three times as long as the equivalent mid boost in the same bracket. Plan accordingly.
You want to reach a specific MMR that determines rank eligibility or badge prestige: Ask your provider specifically about expected game count per 100 MMR by role. Any service that gives you the same timeline estimate regardless of role is not being straight with you. Our internal data makes this explicit; services that refuse to discuss it likely lack the tracking to back up their estimates.
You are in Ancient or higher: The winrate gaps widen significantly at this bracket. All roles see reduced winrates, but support roles take a disproportionate hit. Consider starting a carry or mid boost even if your main role is support, unless your specific goal is to push a support-tagged account.
You want consistent, predictable progress: Carry orders showed the least variance in winrate across brackets in our data. If predictability matters more than maximum speed, carry is the most reliable choice.
How TeamSmurf Role Assignment Works
Our internal data informed a process change we implemented in Q1 2026: verified role-matched booster assignment. Before this change, orders were assigned to available boosters regardless of their primary position specialty. After analyzing our data, we identified that boosters who primarily played carry and mid roles were completing support orders at below their own average winrate — and below what a support specialist would produce.
Starting in March 2026, all orders are assigned to boosters based on verified role performance. A support boost goes to a booster whose role specialization is Position 4 or 5 with at least 200 tracked games at that position in our system. Carry orders go to carry specialists with verified carry records. The impact was immediate: cross-role assignments dropped from 31% of orders to under 9%, and average order completion winrate improved across all role categories within the first four weeks.
This is one of the reasons TeamSmurf prioritizes direct employment of boosters over marketplace-style platforms. The data in this article reflects the post-March performance numbers.
